The Kapoor family is known followers of Baba Lalua Jasrai whose main shrine was on a small hill in Dibalpur (now Pakistan). After the Partition two shrines were dedicated to Baba Lalua -- one at Amritsar and the other in Delhi. The "Choti" ceremony of the Kapoor boys is performed at these sacred grounds. It can thus be presumed that our ancestors lived near Dibalpur before migrating to Lahore and thereafter, to Amritsar in the 19th century.

Kucha-Pir-Sabz Lahore (now Pakistan) was the haunt of the Kapoor’s for many decades headed by Lala Dhondo Rai followed by Lala Ratansukh Rai - Lala Hakikat Rai - Lala Chaga Mal – Lala Dargaya Mal - Lala Ram Lal - Lala Vasakha Ram - Lala Achraj Mal & the Lala Bylow Mal shifted to Amritsar in 19th Century with his son Veerumal and setup home at Bombay wala Khu - Katra Bhag Singh - this house is still with Shri Rama Nand Kapoor branch of the family.

Balmukand the eldest of Virumal sons cleared his exam in 1884 from Church Mission School. He joined Ralisons as sub agent, then served with Bawa Charan Singh a leading advocate. In 1885 he started a soap manufacturing unit and in 1895, set up a shop in guru Bazar to sell Paper, the Trade to which the Kapoor family took to in a big way in years to come.

Balmukand ji attended Swami Daya Nand’s historic speech at Jamadar Di Haveli, Amritsar, which impressed him a lot. Later in cooperation with Swami Sita Ram ji he started a Sanskrit Pathshala in 1895, to enable people to be aware of their own Culture. Swami Sita Ram ji later became an Arya Samaji & had a deep impact on the Kapoor Family.
